Project Overview & Success
The Rotary Club of Wilmington made the decision to “Stand with Ukraine” including education our members about the impact of the war in Ukraine on civilians - Internally Displaced Persons - and to raise money to help in that work. In doing so, we learned about the Rotary clubs in Ukraine and their work to help their fellow citizens.
We engaged speakers from Ukraine via zoom at our weekly meetings and recruited volunteers to educate business leaders and individuals in our community about of the need to help Ukrainians.
Using their influence with these community leaders, RCW volunteers planned and executed a fundraising event which included local Ukrainian community members, a recovering Ukrainian soldier, the Ukrainian Consul to Philadelphia, Irena Mazur, and the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Oksana Markarova and both of Delaware’s U.S. Senators as well as nearly 300 concerned citizens. The result of this event was nearly $300,000 raised for relief projects in Ukraine.
Our efforts were not possible without the support of our generous sponsors and donors. We, and the people of Ukraine, cannot thank you enough for your contributions. Please click below to see a full list of those who were an integral part of our endeavor
