Hands-On Volunteering
The varied hands-on volunteer opportunities to work with Friendship House are centered around hospitality, education, empowerment and community. Group activities often afford opportunities to interact with the homeless men and women.

Some examples:

  • Serving meals and providing hospitality at FH sites
  • Coaching and supporting homeless men and women in job-readiness skills
  • Sorting clothes for the FH Clothing Bank
  • Providing hands-on help with space improvements, including painting, carpet removal and low-skill construction jobs.

Financial & Sweat-Equity Opportunities
Financial assistance and donations of supplies in support of space improvements at two Friendship House facilities are welcome. A more flexible, efficient and user-friendly environment for staff and the clients they serve is being created. Plans underway call for new work stations/office cubicles for private consultations between staff and clients, new furniture, improved lighting, heating and air systems, new paint and new carpeting. New PCs will be used as part of job-readiness programs.

Club members are encouraged to assist with the labor-related tasks such as painting and removal of old carpet and furniture.

Members are encouraged to donate their professional advice and guidance in areas such as architectural, space planning, construction logistics and office systems. Many have already played a key role in this component of the partnership with Friendship House.
