Service Project 2007-08
The club’s first partner in its new approach to service is Friendship House, a non-profit organization committed to helping the homeless people in Wilmington and throughout New Castle County. Its programs include hospitality, education, empowerment and community. Goals are to make a real and positive difference in the lives of the homeless and to raise club members’ awareness of their plight.
Members actively volunteer in various FH programs, providing and sharing meals with homeless people, offering hospitality through conversation at FH shelters, working with the homeless in sorting clothes for the FH Clothing Bank and coaching and supporting homeless men and women in job-readiness skills. Members have generously supported fund raising to facilitate space improvements at two FH facilities, creating a more flexible, efficient and user-friendly environment for the staff and their clients. New furniture and new PCs are included. Much of the design and construction work is being done by club members.
